FAQ
Frequently asked questions – equine massage programs
If your question is not covered, write to us at info@animalmassageawareness.com.
Where should I start if I want to learn equine massage for horses?
If you are new to equine massage therapy, we recommend starting with the Equine Massage Bundle Modules 1–3, which gives you the full foundation and sport massage techniques before you move to individual modules or the advanced bundle 4–5.
Do I need modules 1–3 before taking the advanced bundle 4–5?
Yes, Modules 1–3 (or equivalent experience) are strongly recommended before starting Modules 4–5, because the advanced content assumes you already understand basic techniques, anatomy and safe handling.
Can I buy only one module instead of the bundle?
Yes, you can buy Modules 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 individually, or add a single module later as an add‑on to your bundle if you want to go further at your own pace. The bundles remain the best value if you already know you want the full foundation (Modules 1–3) or the full advanced program (Modules 4–5).
Do I need to take the modules in order?
For most students, it is best to follow the order 1 → 2 → 3 to build your skills progressively; Modules 4 and 5 are designed as advanced add‑ons once you are confident with the basics.
How long do I have access to the course materials?
You get long‑term online access to the videos and PDFs so you can learn at your own pace, review techniques as often as you like and refresh your skills when needed.
How much time should I plan for each module?
Most students complete one module in a couple weeks, working in short, regular sessions; however, you can adapt the pace to your schedule and your horse’s needs.
Do I need previous experience with horses or massage?
You should be comfortable handling a horse safely; no human massage qualification is required, as the modules teach you step by step how to apply safe equine massage movements and techniques.
Will this make me a certified equine massage therapist?
These programs provide structured training hours, techniques and certificates of completion that contribute to your education, but local rules for using the title “equine massage therapist” vary by country or state.
What kind of certificate do I receive?
When you complete a module, you receive a certificate of completion documenting the content and hours, which you can add to your portfolio or continuing education record.
Do I get a diploma?
In the equine massage field, there is no single state‑issued “official diploma” for horses comparable to human massage therapy degrees in the US or Europe. Instead, professional education is built on high‑quality private programs, recognised training hours and certifications delivered by specialised schools and associations. With the Animal Massage Method©, you follow a complete, structured curriculum created and taught by an experienced massage therapist with more than 40 years of practice, and the programs are recognised as continuing education by leading organisations such as the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and the International Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork (IAAMB). Each module or bundle you complete gives you a detailed certificate of completion documenting your training hours and the techniques you have covered, making your education both credible and easy to present to owners, barns or potential clients, while you remain free to combine it with any additional local requirements or associations in your region.
Can I use these techniques on client horses, or only on my own horse?
Many students start by working on their own horses and then progressively apply the techniques to client horses, always respecting veterinary regulations and staying within their legal scope of practice.
Are there any horses these courses are not suitable for?
Horses with acute injury, fever or undiagnosed lameness must be seen by a veterinarian first; the courses teach you basic “red flags & contraindications” and when to avoid massage or refer to a veterinarian.
What equipment or space do I need to follow the course?
You mainly need a calm horse, a safe enclosed space (yard, box, or arena) where the horse can stand comfortably, and a device with internet access to watch the lessons.
Can I follow the course if I don’t have my own horse?
Yes, you can often practise on a friend’s horse, leased or riding school horse, as long as you have the owner’s permission and the horse is healthy and safe to handle.
